DNA-damage sensing and signaling

We investigate structural interactions connecting ATM, the MRN complex, H2AX and p53 during the detection and repair of DNA double-strand breaks.

The DNA-damage response depends on transient, highly organized protein interfaces. The laboratory studies how ATM kinase and damage-sensing components assemble, communicate and recruit downstream signaling pathways.

A central interest is how structural features of these interactions change cellular decisions between repair, arrest and apoptosis, and how cancer-associated alterations disrupt the network.
